HOUSE & HOME
It has been a privilege to call this house our home for over 10-years. As this chapter of our lives closes and the next opens, we will miss waking in its tranquility, only broken by singing birds and the occasional duck quacking on the lake.
During our tenure, and together with the help of highly skilled local tradesman, we have undertaken a wide ranging improvement program including internal and external decoration & maintenance, groundworks, service connections, landscaping and the establishment of extensive hard-standing around the house.
The property is ready for its next owner and there is still scope for further modification and improvement, or just relax and enjoy the current facilities, some local refreshment and 'the good life' in France.
The local area has many amenities to make life easy and comfortable, from a variety of supermarkets, stores, restaurants, cafes, bars, post office and garage services all within 10 mins drive, to sophisticated designer shops and specialist suppliers within 15-20 mins.
Essential services such as doctors, dentists, hospitals and other emergency services are all within easy reach, whilst every type of private and public educational level from Infants School to University is on the doorstep.
The property benefits from telephone and internet connection, provided by France Telecom/Orange as well as good quality mobile coverage.
Whilst thinking about communication, speaking the local language, French or Breton (there is a difference) is helpful, but English is widely spoken and mistakes are graciously forgiven. Classes are available at all levels !
Travelling in the area by bus or car is hassle-free and when looking further afield motorway (toll free in Brittany), rail, air and ferry travel is all within easy reach:-
From the local city of St Brieuc, the high-speed TGV trains comfortably whisks you to Paris in under 2.5 hours. (With Rennes and Le Mans en route)
Regional Airports in Dinard (Ryanair), Brest (Air France), Rennes (AirFrance/Flybe) and Lorient (Ryanair/Regional Air Services), provide domestic and international connections.
Ferries depart from St Malo (1-hr drive) to Channel Islands / UK / Ireland, Roscoff (1-hr drive) to UK / Ireland,(occasionally Spain), Cherbourg (3-hr drive) to UK / Ireland and Caen (3-hr drive) to UK. Further ferries and the Channel Tunnel are also available from Le Havre, Dieppe and Calais.
Brittany’s coastline stretches to more than 1200kms from the World Heritage Site at Mont St-Michel (just into Normandy) to the Loire, and it provides all one could possibly want in terms of walking and sight-seeing.
The sandy beaches of the North Brittany coast are within 30 mins drive and the coastline is dotted with picturesque and stunning villages, harbours and seaside towns.
The sheltered south coast of Brittany offers beaches as well as extensive water-sports opportunities and numerous attractions for young and old alike.
At the very west of Brittany is the city of Brest, a mecca for everyone that loves the sea and sailing.
Inland, the region affords a rich background of cultural and architectural treasures in this ancient and historical land. Modern towns and cities are also located throughout the region bringing vibrancy and communication to this important area of Europe.
Brittany is known throughout France for its great ingredients and gastronomic traditions, including crepes/galettes and its abundant seafoods. With a local 'cidre' (traditionally served in a 'bolée' - cup), enjoy the best of the region.
